Churchwardens' Major Projects
Back to Churchwardens' Projects We have had the follow donations towards the tower repairs from: |
This page shows the last 5 updates. For older updates click the link above. Work is progressing well. Some bricks have now been replaced. We have a new wooden lintel over the exit to the roof and a new wooden support to the weather vane. The weather vane ifself has been sand blasted to clean it up and a new coats of paint applied. Most of the work at roof level has been completed. There was a site visit on today between the architects, the contractors and the Churchwardens. Progress was discussed and it was agreed to paid the contractors the first installment for the work completed. At the moment, the final bill may be less than the original quote. It is hoped that the work will be completed before the original date of Dec 22nd. Work is progressing well. The overhang at the top of the tower as been reconstructed. The area with the most damage on the north wall is being reconstructed using the original flints but with new lime mortar. Although there is still a long way to go to complete this area. The north-west buttress reconstruction is coming on well with only a small area left to be done. A number of bricks have been identified for replacement. We are still waiting for the metal engineers report. Work has started on the actual repair of the tower. Some of the turrets on the roof have been repointed, lime mortar is being put back and some of the flint work is being started. Yesterday the metal engineer was on site to look at the badly corroded metal band. It's now thought that this band is not actually performing structual function. The main roof of the tower has been boarded over to protect it. Most of the preparation work has been completed. This involves removing old flaky pointing and loose stone work. A large area of the north wall and the north-west buttress has had the flints removed. The contractors have confirmed that we can continue to ring our bells. |
