Healing Services

Healing Team Minutes

The Healing Team was originally formed to meet a need for individual prayers for healing for the members of the church community. This takes place at the same time as communion is being given during the family Eucharist service on the fourth Sunday of the month. Members of the congregation can go to the Lady Chapel, either before or after receiving communion, where two members of the Healing Team are waiting to pray. The person can go up to either member of the team and tell them who they would like prayers for, it doesn't have to be for themselves.

The team member will lay their hands on the person's head or shoulders and pray with them. Whilst this is taking place, a CD of quiet music is played rather than the choir singing. This is to allow the choir the opportunity to come for healing themselves if they so wish. As part of the church's outreach into New Ash Green, the team has introduced a Saturday morning service of prayers for healing. These services are held every two months alternating between Turners Oak and Hanover House, the sheltered residences in the community. These services are short, less than 30 minutes, and a single short prayer is said for everybody as the leader lays hands on each person, if they what to receive it.

There are 14 members of the Healing Team, some do the praying at the services others provide the music but everybody supports each other in all our activities and especially through prayer. The team meets once a month to discuss the previous services and plan future services.

Every year, in October, we hold an evening healing service in the church. The service starts with a shared meal, then we have a talk from a guest speaker and we end with a short service which includes individual prayers for healing for anybody who would like to come forward. The team also spends a quiet day together at West Malling Abbey once or twice a year.
